Caisteal Chamuis (Castle Camus) – Vatted 46%

70cl, 46% – Scotland

This bold and smoky no-age-statement bottling offers a balance of heavy peat smoke with a crisp oak spice and vanilla finish. The expression has been distilled on Skye, Orkney and Islay, and is finished in first-fill Bourbon casks. Double Barrelled – First-fill Bourbon finish: first aged in refill and first-fill American oak Hogsheads (two stage re-aging with part of the blend in Virgin American Oak); the final ageing finish is in smaller 200 litre fresh Bourbon barrels. A decidedly smoky dram, cromprised of peated whiskies from the Scottish Isles, with wafts of sweet vanilla imparted by the aforementioned bourbon barrels. Sea breeze, toasted teacake with salted butter, honeyed apple and a pinch of pepper on the nose, followed by caramelised nuts and flaked almonds, charred oak staves, a hint of medicinal smoke on the mouth. The finish is singed barley, crunchy brown sugar and banana fritters.
