100% Riesling Spätlese [SHPAYT-lay-zuh] is German for “late picked.” It has more richness and body than Kabinett because the grapes are allowed to ripen for an extra week or more. The extra time on the vine allows for greater development of flavor and aroma, what Ernst Loosen refers to as “aromatic ripeness.” This “Prädikat” (ripeness level) often gives you the purest expression of the vineyard’s terroir. The Wehlener Sonnenuhr Spätlese is rich and juicy, with a mouth-filling texture from the fully ripe fruit. It has excellent concentration and a penetrating persistence of fruit on the palate. Suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
