Another addition to the Finlaggan single malt family, this particular expression was distilled on Islay and matured exclusively in red wine hogsheads. The casks were sourced from the Rioja region in the Basque country in Spain, adding an extra fruity dimension to the heavily peated Island whisky. It was bottled at 46% ABV without chillfiltering, in a release of 7,000 bottles. Nose: Smoky and peaty aromas intertwined with lovely sweet red berries as well as dried fruit and a hint of oaky vanilla. Palate: A salty savoury note of smoked meat against a backdrop of sweet fruit, made up of plum jam, red grapes, orange marmalade and more berries, shrouded by earthy peat smoke. Finish: Sweet malt and grape skin supported by bonfire smoke on a lingering finish.
