Richard Kelley is mad on South African wine. His ‘brand’ The Liberator ‘liberates’ great wines from larger producers and bottles them on their own rather than these tasty wines being blended away into volume plonk.
‘Do you know the Bishop of Norwich?’ For those who know the true meaning of this euphemism, it serves as a timely reminder, while for those who don’t, they are politely informed ‘He’s a terribly good chap, but he always forgets to pass the Port…’
Episode 9 is his first venture in Port style wine. With aromas of blackberries, cherry menthol and mint, the palate has a dryness which is nice, spiced fruit cake, ginger and then a parsley like herbal note, all the while coated in cherry and blueberry compote.
