We are suppliers to both the general public here at our shop in Loughborough and wines to the restaurant trade throughout the uk.

We thought about putting together some guides for our customers (and all those people out there getting to know about wine) in order to help them wander outside of their comfort zone but we almost didn't post about them. But with Christmas (yes, there, we said it!) fast approaching, a few of you are already planning the festivities and compiling their Christmas Wine list. So we thought what better time than the present?! Champagne is the go-to drink when it comes to the festive period, but it's becoming increasingly difficult to find good quality Champagne that doesn't break the bank. So why not shop smarter and go for some alternatives? We are showing you a few options: - French sparklings, Champagne-style (second fermentation in bottle), but from areas other than Champagne, such as Loire and Languedoc; - Franciacorta, which is the answer to Champagne from Italy (Milan area to be a bit more specific); - English sparklings. These are getting increasingly popular and of such quality that is impossible not to fall in love with them; - Cava, because who doesn't love a good Cava? - Sekt. This one from Dr Loosen, made from 100% Riesling, has a fantastic acidity and just the right amount of bubbles; - Sparkling Rioja, because there's more to Rioja than red wine. WHISKY PIPETTE! 🥃 We have recently added some whisky-related items to the shop and we are smitten by these pipettes 😍 If you drink your whisky with a splash of water, this will make the measuring much easier and you'll be able to add only what you really need, not a drop more. They also come in their own little packaging so they are easy to store and won't break. Have you spotted us on Howden Insurance's notice board? 😍 Jamie and the Team have approached us a few weeks ago with the opportunity of being featured on their notice board. What could we say but yes?! Each month they cast a light on local businesses around Loughborough because -let's be honest- in a sea full of retail chains with their massive premises and huge online presence, we sometimes forget the tiddly piddly independents that make our High Streets unique and interesting. It's certainly easier to Google something and buy it in a couple of clicks at any time of day and night than to walk down to your town centre and go from shop to shop to hopefully find what you're looking for. We've all done it (even us). The thing is, we just need to look a little bit closer to discover the amazing small businesses Loughborough is home to. The community created by these independents is invaluable and unique. We have lost count of the incredibly fascinating conversations we've had in the shop, of the friendships that have blossomed over the years, of the the support customers old and new have given us. And what better way than to show you our Wines of the Month for October 🍷 Good old favourites of ours, the Vistamar line has great wines at an affordable price for all those mid-week treats: - always-reliable Sauvignon Blanc has got bags of citrus fruits, light mineral notes and a touch of fresh herbs on the nose. It's fresh, with a delicate texture and a long fruity finish. - The Pinot Noir is a basket full of raspberries and cherries, with a touch of spice and a nice, delicate balanced finish. Today is the Te Quiero ("I love you" in Spanish) turn under the spotlight. As we mentioned last week, these 2 Wines of the Month have been crafted by using small plots of older, native varieties grape varieties like Graciano, Monastrell, Tinto Velasco that local farmers have been preserving out of pride and historical interest. This blend shows intense, deep colour; rich bramble fruits and a touch of spiciness, along with some round tannins balance it all out brilliantly. Behind this project is Giles Cooke MW and his vision of bringing to the wine lovers a range that can showcase the potential of Rioja, Navarra and La Mancha, when great quality fruit is the main focus. Drawing on the revered, in-depth knowledge of Paul Shinnie and the technical skills of Marta Juega Rivera, these wines offer a tantalising taste of contemporary Spain, through the flavours of older, native grape varieties, grown in small plots around these areas. DID YOU KNOW THAT.... Our Wine Club boxes are uber-flexible? This month we had: - a handful of customers on holiday, so their boxes are going out later than usual - a request to swap a couple of bottles in a customer's box - a special request from a regular delivery to change their box entirely to all Riojas for this month's only - changed the ratio of red-white wines for 2 other customers' as colder months are approaching and they fancied more reds.
